About the event
Ganesh Chaturthi honors the birth of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and god of wisdom. The festival begins with the installation of Ganesha idols in homes and public pandals, followed by daily prayers and offerings of sweets like modaks, believed to be his favorite. Devotees chant “Ganpati Bappa Morya” and seek his blessings for prosperity and success.
The festival lasts for ten days, concluding with Visarjan (immersion of idols in water bodies) amidst grand processions. Eco-friendly celebrations are encouraged to minimize environmental impact. Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh witness large-scale celebrations with music, dance, and cultural performances.
