Falling on the fourth day of the bright fortnight in the Hindu lunar month of Bhadrapada (August-September), this festival spans over a period of ten days. The festivities commence with the installation of Ganesha idols in homes and public spaces, lavishly adorned for the occasion.
Devotees partake in intricate rituals, prayers, present offerings such as modaks (considered Ganesha's favorite sweet), and engage in devotional singing. Culminating on Anant Chaturdashi, the final day witnesses grand processions transporting the idols to rivers or the sea for immersion, symbolizing the cycle of creation and dissolution in the cosmos.
