There is a dimension beyond our thought, perception, speech and action. This silent region is hidden behind our conscious mind. But always there is an inherent yearning in us to seek and unravel this mystery. So Man has attempted to connect to this realm through personal experience, religious scriptures, scientific research, music, poetry, art and even clairvoyance and occult practices.

But this fascinating search still remains a hidden secret. Why? Because the dimension is not accessible to the five senses and so cannot be qualified through our limited perception. Yet it can be indicated and experienced through our intuitive mind. Just think of this intuitive power as an inbuilt high-frequency ‘micro- chip’ within our intelligence that transmits extraordinary revelations. How is one to tap this frequency of intuition from within? Through self-inquiry we can slowly harness this intuitive power.

But first of all, we have to begin by asking the salient question ‘Who Am I’?  Then we can take the leap to discover our real identity beyond our cloak of name, gender, age, nationality, personal appearance, profession and role in life.

The Identity

If you Google the word ‘self’ you will come across various ideas - philosophical explanations, religious declarations, debates, opinions and even assumptions. Let me suggest that you replace the word ‘self’ with the pronoun ‘I’. Why? Because you must acknowledge your identity first before adding value to your experience.

No experience in this world can supersede before acknowledging your own identity. You must be aware of your Mind, Intellect and Body first to illumine that which appears apart from your control. God, Nature, the Universe and this entire Cosmos cannot be a topic of discussion until and unless we gain the sentience of our own self. So, ‘I’ is the prime prompter for us to embark on this journey to self-Discovery. Then why do I need to find the True Self when I know I am that self? Am I not the True Self? What is this journey of finding the True Self?

The True Self

‘Self’ is a natural feeling of individuality experienced by the mind that makes a person gain a sense of ‘I-ness’. This sense of ‘I-ness’ is called the ego. This ego gives birth to individuality. The ego is a functional exuberant thought energy that motivates, inspires and kindles the desire to seek and explore life. When ego collaborates with the mind it animates its own matrix to sustain its sense of existence.

This functional ego will slowly cover our real connection with the ultimate Supreme source that enlivens the mind. This supreme Source is what the great seers have indicated as Atman, Isvara, Brahman, God, Heavenly Spirit, Supreme Consciousness or the True Self.

Even now we are connected with this ultimate Truth alone but we, in our ignorance have overlooked this relationship and assumed we are only functioning as the individual mind. Recognizing the True Self is the goal of our spiritual journey.

In short, ‘I’ am the True Self minus the Ego, Mind and Intellect. But since our ego is the prime mover of this sense of ‘I’ness’, it has taken the liberty to think it is the source of our origin. Ego that is supposed to aid us to find our true Self has made us to believe it is the ultimate goal of everything. That is why the ego hides our real Self. It knows if we begin to acknowledge that source of all illumination deep within the ego, it has to fall.

The Ego will never give up that easily! BEWARE!
